About Bassé: Rooted in Truth, Led by Experience
Our clinic was created to elevate the standard and deepen the integrity of Ibogaine therapy. We offer unmatched medical oversight, heartfelt care, and the most comprehensive support in the field.
Our Ethos at Bassé
Bassé means “truth” in the Bwiti, the West African tradition that has honored and protected the Iboga plant – the source of Ibogaine – for generations.
The ethos of truth is at the heart of everything we do – from being rooted in our founder’s story of healing her own addiction with Ibogaine, to our unwavering commitment to providing exceptional care to our clients.
With trusted medical expertise and a foundation of genuine empathy and compassion, we guide you through every step of your journey. We are devoted to helping you reclaim your life and transition from merely surviving to thriving.
“My life was transformed by Ibogaine treatment. After going through more than 15 different rehab centers, I had almost given up hope – until I found this incredible medicine. Within just 45 minutes of taking that initial flood dose, the grip of my addiction was released.
I have been clean for over 14 years now, and it feels like I’ve lived many lives since that moment. I can no longer relate to the person I once was – addiction no longer defines me.
Ibogaine didn’t just help me break free; it gave me a chance to rebuild my life on my own terms. If you’re seeking a way out, know that change is possible. Your path to freedom is waiting. If I can do it, I know you can too.”
– Laura Shapiro, Founder and CEO of Bassé
How We View Trauma, Pain, and Addiction
We know what it’s like to struggle with addiction. Trauma. Mental health symptoms that just don’t let up, no matter what you try.
These struggles are rarely just about substances or symptoms – they’re often tied to deeper pain that hasn’t yet had space to heal.
For many, these issues require treatment that not only provides a deep neurochemical reset, but also addresses the unconscious structures, beliefs, and patterns that have been dictating the individual’s life.
Each member of our team of clinical and shamanic professionals brings a unique skill set and cultural background to create the safest, most compassionate, and ethical ibogaine experience possible. Our skilled therapists and coaches provide personalized support, helping you process your underlying issues, close trauma loops, and develop essential life skills.
We adopt a non-12-step approach that empowers clients to overcome addiction, depression, and trauma rather than viewing them as incurable diseases that simply require symptom management.
Through somatic integration, mindfulness practices, and structured integration protocols, we equip you with the tools to navigate your inner landscape and face the intensity of life without relying on substances or maladaptive behaviors.
We also practice what we preach. All of our team members are actively working on our own wounds, so that we are trustworthy and credible to all those we are blessed to connect with.
What Makes Bassé Different
Decades of Experience with Ibogaine
Our team brings over 20 years of hands-on experience with Ibogaine treatment, grounded in rigorously developed medical protocols.
Truly Holistic Approach
We integrate Ibogaine with somatic therapy, trauma-informed care, and personalized wellness plans that go far beyond detox, addressing the nervous system, neurochemistry, and emotional resilience.
Focus on Neuroplasticity and Nervous System Healing
Our protocols support the brain’s natural ability to rewire and heal, helping you reset neural pathways, release stored trauma, and return to a regulated state.
Scientific Oversight by Dr. Deborah Mash
Our Scientific Advisor, Dr. Deborah Mash, is the world’s foremost expert on Ibogaine and the only person to receive FDA approval for human Ibogaine trials. Her pioneering research and clinical insight elevate every aspect of our program.
Medical Leadership from National Public Health Expert
Our Medical Director, Dr. Juan Manuel Quijada Gaytán, is a leading Mexican public health expert specializing in mental health and addictions, and was the former Head of Mexico’s National Mental Health and Addictions Commission (Conasama).
Rooted in Tradition and Sacred Reciprocity
We also honor the sacred, ancestral roots of Iboga medicine. Through our partnership with Bwiti Priestess and healer Audrey Jover, we donate a portion of proceeds to her non-profit, Bwiti Roots, and plant an Iboga tree for every client that visits us.
Cultural Responsibility
At Bassé, we believe that working with Ibogaine carries an ethical responsibility to honor and support the cultures that have safeguarded this medicine for generations. We are privileged to partner with Audrey Jover, a Fang Bwiti Priestess and healer who comes from a long lineage of female shamans in Gabon.
Audrey serves as our Bwiti advisor, ensuring that our work remains grounded in authenticity, respect, and cultural integrity. As part of our commitment to reciprocity, Bassé donates a portion of our proceeds to Bwiti Roots and plants an Iboga tree for every client we serve, giving back to the people, culture, and land that make this healing possible.
MEDICAL STAFF
Our medical staff are all board-certified and emergency-trained physicians and nurses, selected for their backgrounds in emergency medicine and focus on critical care. They are highly competent and experienced physicians and nurses with unique expertise in addiction, trauma, and pain treatments. Before joining Bassé, every member of our medical team undergoes extensive training in Ibogaine treatment for drug-dependent and trauma-based individuals under the direct supervision of our medical director.
