Why Veterans Choose Ibogaine Therapy

If you or someone you love is a veteran, you know how this experience can leave a lasting mark on all aspects of your life and health.

Ibogaine is emerging as a new frontier for treatment for veterans, offering pathways to healing that conventional approaches have been unable to provide. Here’s a breakdown of how ibogaine therapy can help veterans find healing and truly take their lives back.

Veterans reported reduced symptoms of PTSD, depression, and anxiety following ibogaine treatment in this 2025 study. Thanks to its complex neurological mechanisms, including inducing neuroplasticity and cognitive flexibility, ibogaine helps individuals suffering from mental health symptoms to break free from trauma loops and build new, healthier ways of seeing and interacting with the world around them.

Ibogaine also has the ability to produce profound results in individuals struggling with substance addiction – an issue that often accompanies mental health struggles and plagues the veteran community. Research shows that ibogaine – unlike any other known compound – can drastically reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings in individuals with opiate and cocaine addictions.

Veterans experience unique challenges as a result of their service, including acute trauma that causes them to stay stuck in a state of hyper-vigilance once returning home.

Many also struggle with moral injury and the deep wounds that come from violating their moral code. Overcoming these challenges requires a multifaceted approach rooted in compassion, support, and nervous system regulation. Safe ibogaine therapy at Bassé provides this structure.

During ibogaine treatment, individuals undergo a profound psychedelic journey, helping them to observe and process past traumas from a third-party perspective. Patients also report deep emotional and psychological realization and a newfound sense of clarity about what brought them to where they are today – and the path ahead. For veterans, this journey may allow them to release the pain and trauma they experienced while serving and envision a new life for themselves post-treatment.

It’s crucial to note that ibogaine for veterans is not a magic cure. Anybody who comes to ibogaine treatment should understand that seeing sustained results requires personal commitment to the process and a willingness to make a change. But if they are ready to put in the work, ibogaine can help tremendously.

The Veteran Experience: Ibogaine Treatment Timeline

What does veteran trauma recovery look like at Bassé Ibogaine?

Here’s a breakdown of how we approach our ibogaine retreats for veterans.

Once you arrive at our clinic, you’ll undergo medical assessments and connect with a therapist or coach to help you prepare for the treatment. We take extra measures to balance your electrolytes ahead of ibogaine administration, as well as provide signature somatic therapies to support nervous system regulation.

On day four, you embark on your ibogaine journey, which usually lasts from 12 to 24 hours, and can be divided up into three stages. During the first stage, many people are taken on a visionary journey that feels like watching a TV screen of their own lives, along with other symbolism and imagery.

What follows is a period of deep emotional and mental processing and introspection, where you gain insight into the past events that brought you to where you are today. After around 12 hours, you come out of the most intense part of the ibogaine journey and begin integrating everything you experienced. We’ll be continuously monitoring you and ensuring your physical and emotional safety every step of the way.

Following your journey, you will be encouraged to rest as we continue to support you with somatic therapies, nourishing meals, and integration practices. As your retreat closes out, you’ll connect with your therapist or coach and be introduced to our aftercare program so you can go home feeling resourced and ready for the path ahead.

Integration & Reintegration Support for Veterans

Veterans are no strangers to the struggle of reintegration into society after a life-altering experience. Stepping back into your daily life after ibogaine requires concerted effort to be able to deepen the insights you received and establish healthy practices during the all-important window of neuroplasticity. It’s this post-treatment phase – integration – that turns a powerful experience into a real-life transformation.

What does an ibogaine integration plan look like when veterans come to Bassé?

All our guests receive access to our 30-day aftercare program that’s specifically focused on somatic and mindfulness tools that promote nervous system regulation, as well as other practices that help deepen the neurological repair. This comprehensive program helps you land back into your life and continue to work on the tools to keep you feeling regulated and ready to navigate any triggers that may arise.

You will also have access to optional additional 1:1 integration support from one of our coaches or therapists. This support can help you stay accountable to the changes you want to make – both in your mental narrative and external world – and develop a post-service identity rooted in self-compassion and purpose.

We also recommend staying connected to supportive, non-addicted communities once you arrive back home. This may look like joining veteran support groups, engaging in mission-driven volunteer work, or rebuilding connections with loved ones. Our integration coaches can help you make the initial steps toward establishing healthy relationships around you.
